The Return of Tarzan

Tarzan of the Apes (sh. Tarzan od majmuna) je pustolovni roman američkog književnika Edgara Ricea Burroughsa, originalno objavljen u pulp magazinu All-Story Magazine 1912. godine, poznat kao prvi iz ciklusa romana o Tarzanu. Radnja prikazuje kako je John Clayton, nasljednik engleskog lorda Greystokea, kao beba sticajem okolnosti završava u džunglama Afrike gdje će ga usvojiti i odgojiti plemen majmuna; protagonist, nakon što odraste, postaje "kralj" svog plemena te s vremenom dolazi u kontakt sa zapadnom civilizacijom, postepeno doznaje istinu o svom porijeklu te se zaljubljuje u Jane Porter. Roman je stekao takvu popularnost da je Burroughs sljedeće godine napisao nastavak The Return of Tarzan, te započeo seriju romana koja će završiti tek 1940-ih.

Popularnost romana i lika se odrazila i na film, te je roman poslužio kao brojne filmove, odnosno prve u serijama filmova posvećenim Tarzanu. Prvi od njih je Tarzan of the Apes iz 1918. godine, a vjerojatno najpoznatiji je Tarzan the Ape Man sa Johnnyjem Weissmullerom iz 1932. godine. Najvjernijom ekranizacijom se, pak, obično smatra Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes iz 1984. godine.
