ダニエル・ティーマン

ダニエル・フォーセット・ティーマン (Daniel Fawcett Tiemann、1805年1月9日 - 1899年6月29日)^[1]はアメリカの政治家。ニューヨーク市長、ニューヨーク州上院議員、科学と芸術の振興のためのクーパー・ユニオンの創設理事であった。^[2]

実業家であり、マンハッタンビルに住み、そこで顔料や塗料を製造会社D.F. Tiemann & Company Paint & Color Worksを経営していた。この会社は元々父I.アンソニー・ティーマン、兄弟ジュリアス・ウィリアム・ティーマン、そしてニコラス・Stippelにより、1804年に創業された。父は1839年に事業から引退した。^[3]ティーマン研究所と工場は元々ニューヨーク23丁目と4番街にあり、1832年にマンハッタンビルに移転した。^[3]

私立神学校で教育を受け、13歳ではH.M. Schiefflin & Co.のドラッグストアで見習いを始めた。パールストリートの同店で、1824年まで務め、父の会社に入社した。1826年にその会社の共同経営者となった。^[3]

父方の叔父ジュリアス・ウィリアム・ティーマンは、D.F. Tiemann companyの共同創業者であり、息子はニューヨークの商業写真家ヘルマン・ニューウェル・ティーマン(1863–1957)。^[3][4]

発明家ピーター・クーパーの義理の甥にあたる。^[5]1826年、クーパーの姪マーサ・クロウズと結婚し、3人の息子と3人の娘がいた。^[3]ニューヨーク市マンハッタンの自治区ティーマン町は彼に因んで名づけられた。
