Gymnema sylvestre adalah tumbuhan herbal yang berasal dari hutan tropis di India selatan dan tengah serta di Sri Lanka. Dalam bahasa Inggris, tumbuhan ini diberi julukan Gymnema,[1] cowplant', Australian cowplant dan periploca of the woods.[2][3] Tumbuhan ini dikenal karena ekstrak daunnya dapat meredam reseptor manis di lidah. Bahan aktif yang memicu reaksi ini adalah gurmarin, sebuah polipeptida yang terbuat dari 35 asam amino.[4]
Gymnema sylvestre telah lama digunakan sebagai obat-obatan tradisional di Asia.[5] Tumbuhan ini mengandung triterpenoid yang dapat digunakan untuk keperluan obat.[5]
Tumbuhan ini merupakan tumbuhan merambat dengan "bulu" (trikomata) lembut di permukaan atasnya. Daun-daunnya berbentuk oval lonjong. Sementara itu, bunganya yang mekar berwarna kuning.[6]
