History

Arab al-Samniyya

The Palestinian village of Arab al-Samniyya stood in this location prior to Ya'ara's existence. In 1945, Ya'ara had a population of 200 people, and a largely agricultural economy.

On October 30th, 1948, during the Nakba, units drawn from the Sheva', Carmeli, Golani, and 'Oded brigades assaulted Arab al-Samniyya. There these Israeli soldiers perpetrated a massacre against Arab al-Samniyya's inhabitants, ethnically cleansed its inhabitants, and completely destroyed the village.[2]

Ya'ara.

The moshav of Ya'ara was established by Jewish settlers in 1950 on land seized from of Arab al-Samniyya.[2][3]

During the 2023–24 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, northern Israeli border communities including Ya'ara faced targeted attacks by Hezbollah and Palestinian factions based in Lebanon, resulting in their evacuation.[4]
