Mikado cake (Armenian: Միկադո տորթ), also known as Mikado, is an Armenian layered cake invented in Armenian SSR and made with boiled condensed milk or dulce de leche buttercream, sour cream and topped with the grated chocolate.[1][2][3]
History
It is believed that the name of the cake was taken from the product warehouse in Baku, which was built in traditional Eastern style by the son of a renowned businessmen Haji Bek Karimov after his trip to China and Japan. As a lot of Armenians lived in Baku, the name was soon repurposed for a cake, and the dessert itself is now eaten primarily in Armenia.[4]
