Francesco Abbate

Francesco Abbate (born 1939) is an Italian former professor of art history at University of Lecce. Since 2020 he adhered to the Empathic Movement (Empathism).[1]

Biography

Abbate indagated in particolar as a scholar the art of the South of Italy.[2] He got his degree at the University of Florence in 1964. Under the supervision of Roberto Longhi he got his main academic title at University of Bologna. He has been also working for Soprintendenza of Rome. In 1973 he started to teach at the University of Naples "L'Orientale". In 1994 started to teach at University of Lecce till he gor retired.[3][4] He published several academic volumes on the arts.[5][6]
